The beauty of  natural materials is that they evoke an emotional response in most of us. The wood that you see was shaped in years of changing weather, each grain, each ring of wood absolutely unique and representative of the particular and unpredictable conditions in nature, inseparable from the events over time that created them.  To bring these materials into our living spaces, we bring a  warmth, difficult to replicate with manufactured materials.
